Sudanese teenager bashed
A YOUNG Sudanese youth was in hospital last night following an apparently racially-based attack in Melton.
The attack, which left the teenager unconscious, has been blamed on remarks last week by Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews.
*snip*
Police confirmed that a teenager was hit in the head by a bottle and his wallet and mobile phone stolen. The phone was then used to send "racial remarks" to the man's brother, police said.

THE African community in Wagga Wagga in NSW will hold a public meeting on Saturday to respond to claims by Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews that Sudanese migrants and refugees are struggling to integrate.
Sudanese community leader John Moi said some of the town's 300 African residents had been abused on the street since the comments, which he said had sparked racial vilification. Mr Moi said he had invited local politicians and police to the meeting.

The government needs to change its tune and fast, or we are going to continue seeing this kind of behaviour from the public. Leaders have to set the example on how to treat others.
If we constantly see on the TV that the government hates these kinds of people, then we are going to be witness to this kind of hatred in the streets. The U.S. is a good example of this.
The LGTBIQQ population in the U.S. have no real rights at all. They might have state delivered rights, and maybe a few federally delivered rights, but nothing to make them equal in the eyes of the law.
In the U.S. we see such laws as Don't Ask Don't Tell, the militaries answer to gay people serving. In other words no one should ask if you are gay, but if you do tell, you open yourself up to being kicked out.
But these laws have lead to some rather homophobic attitudes from with in the ranks as well. We see anti gay rhetoric written on the sides of bombs to be dropped over Iraq and Afghanistan during the early days of both those wars.
The governments stance on marriage has lead to several states getting the people to vote for anti marriage equality laws in their home states.
We simply cannot let Australia get to the state we see the U.S. in today. I do not want to be a witness to a Matthew Shepard or Brandon Teena style murders here in Australia, simply because of who someone happens to be.
